The FAN2518S27X is an advanced linear regulator, specifically designed for intense load operations. It incorporates an efficient, optimized 28% step-down voltage regulator in a tiny package (4.2mmx4.2mm). This device provides a wide adjustable input voltage range (from 2.5V to 27V) to 4.9V output with maximum 2A current.The FAN2518S27X is a high-efficiency linear voltage regulator designed to meet stringent voltage regulation requirements with low standby current. It uses very advanced technology that minimizes output current ripple and noise. It has excellent dynamic characteristics, allowing for extremely fast transient response and start-up times. In addition, the FAN2518S27X has a smooth output voltage with low noise and low ripple. The FAN2518S27X uses an internal PMOS (Metal Oxide Semiconductor) pass device, which allows very low output voltage ripple. The device also features over temperature protection and short-circuit current limitation. It is ideal for low-power applications that require very low current consumption and output voltage stability.The FAN2518S27X is particularly suitable for a wide variety of applications, including portable equipment, cellular phones, digital cameras, and other mobile devices. It can also be used in military and aerospace applications, as well as in industrial, automotive, and medical equipment. The device is designed to operate from a wide input voltage range of 2.5V ~ 27V and deliver 0.5A ~ 2A of output current. The FAN2518S27X operating principle is simple. An external resistor (R1) connected to the “REF” pin usually dictates the output voltage. The amount of resistance is depended on the output voltage desired. A resistor (R2) connected between the “FB” and ground also has to be added for over temperature protection and short-circuit current limitation. Generally, the device takes input voltage, regulates it and then provides output voltage with low stray currents and low output ripple. The device also features improved surge handling and short-circuit protection. The output voltage is regulated by sensing the current flowing through the NPN transistor, and then controlling the output voltage by varying the duty cycle of the PMOS pass device.The device has an adjustable output voltage protection that is set by the user via the “EN” pin.
