Working Principle

The FAN2513S285X is an integrated linear voltage regulator which uses an internal transistor to regulate the output voltage. The device operates by varying the duty cycle of the internal transistor to control the amount of energy supplied to the output. As the voltage on the output increases, the duty cycle of the internal transistor is decreased, and vice versa. The output voltage of the device is then regulated to the value set by a resistor between the Adjust pin and ground.When the power is first applied, the internal transistor is turned on and the output voltage will get regulated to the output voltage set by the Adjust pin. The internal transistor is turned off to reduce the output voltage if it is above the voltage set by the Adjust pin. It is then turned on to increase the output voltage if it is below the voltage set by the Adjust pin. The FAN2513S285X can also be used as a current limited load switch by connecting the Load pin to ground and connecting the load between the output and ground. In this mode, the internal transistor is turned off and the output voltage drops to ground, which causes the current to be limited. If the current reaches the current limit set by the adjustable current limit circuit, the internal transistor will be turned off again to reduce the output voltage.
