RF mixers are used to convert signals between different frequencies, performing the fundamental mixing process in RF communication systems. The HMC815BLC5TR-R5 is a type of RF mixer which is designed for use within devices operating in the Microwave frequency range. This practical RF mixer offers excellent linearity of less than 8dBm IIP3 under a 20 dBm of LO drive.The mixer also has good sensitivity, with a noise figure of 9 dB typ for excellent receiver sensitivity and it shows excellent image rejection with a typical IM3 in the range of less than -50 dBc. In addition, it is equipped with an internal LO buffer, and the LO buffer has an adjustable bias feature that offers flexibility for operations in different environments.
The HMC815BLC5TR-R5 is composed of two double-balanced mixer core and two level shifter. The double-balanced mixer core is composed of four single-balanced mixing stages. Two of them are arranged in a Gilbert cell configuration and the other two are configured in an anti-parallel arrangement for providing the required gain and noise figure. The level shifter allows a signal of one frequency range to be converted to another frequency range without loss of signal strength. It is useful for demodulation and frequency shifting of signals.
The whole device is implemented using low-cost GaAs (Gallium Arsenide) technology which contributes to the stability, low noise, linearity and high sensitivity performances of the HMC815BLC5TR-R5. The device comes in a miniature QFN (Quad Flat No-Lead) package which makes it suitable for use in compact systems where space is limited.
