The working mechanism of the HMC8579LG12 is based on a closed loop in which the output voltage is compared to an internally generated reference voltage. This reference voltage is set according to the requirement and the difference between the two is used to modulate the attenuator. When the output voltage exceeds the reference value, the attenuator reduces the power in proportion to the difference between the two values. The HMC8579LG12 consists of a series of resistors, capacitors, diodes, and transistors arranged in an IC package. Depending on the resistance of the resistor and the speed of the transistor, the device can operate at a maximum frequency of 10GHz. The HMC8579LG12 can be used as an independent or switched attenuator.
