ISL6225CAZ-T Application Field and Working PrincipleThe ISL6225CAZ-T is a member of the specialized voltage regulator family. Its specialized fixed output voltage of 5V is ideal for specialised applications such as in a variety of different automotive, consumer and industrial markets. This voltage regulator is based on the classic design of a pass transistor linear regulator, which reduces the output voltage to a stable level by means of a feedback loop. It employs a self-contained PNP pass-transistor, and uses the conventional zener diode based voltage reference as the voltage reference. This voltage reference and the associated circuitry determines the output voltage.When the output voltage is higher than the load requirement, the IC forces the PNP transistor gates by providing some current to the PNP transistor base. This forces the PNP transistor to start conducting and decrease the output voltage. On the other hand, if the voltage drops below the load requirement, the pass transistor turns off, allowing the output voltage to rise. This will happen until the voltage reaches the reference voltage and the voltage gets regulated.The ISL6225CAZ-T features an over-current protection circuit. This means the IC monitors the output current level in the feedback loop and if it increases beyond the preset limits, the IC will automatically shut down the load current. Another feature of this voltage regulator is the Under Voltage Lock Out (UVLO). This ensures that the output load doesn\'t experience any over/under-voltage conditions when the input voltage is outside the respective safe limits.
