ISL61853ACRZ-T Application Field and Working Principle
PMICs, or Power Management Integrated Circuits, are integrated circuits originally intended to reduce the number of discreet components used in devices. PMICs are used to efficiently and safely manage power in a wide range of electronic products. PMICs provide the necessary architecture, building blocks, and reference designs to allow designers to quickly and effectively design devices powered by battery or AC, including charging applications and energy management considerations. ISL61853ACRZ-T is a dual-channel Hot Swap Controllers designed to protect systems from inrush current/over-current, over-voltage, over-temperature, and shorting of incorrect polarity.
Application of ISL61853ACRZ-T
ISL61853ACRZ-T is a dual-channel hot swap controllers designed for circuit protection circuitry, including over-current, over-voltage, over-temperature protection. These hot swap controllers are designed for failure-safe Hot Swap circuit protection, gradually incrementing the inrush current to your load, while also asynchronously monitoring the load voltage, temperature, and current. Applications commonly using ISL61853ACRZ-T include servers, power distribution boards, peripheral devices, automotive onboard chargers, high current applications, and any other application requiring hot swap protection.Block Diagram and Working Principle
The block diagram of an ISL61853ACRZ-T integrated circuit is shown in figure 1.Figure 1. ISL61853ACRZ-T Block DiagramISL61853ACRZ-T is designed with two independent hot swap channels that monitor the input voltage, temperature, and current in order to provide fast and safe hot swap protection to system circuitry. Channel 1 and Channel 2 monitor the input from two independent power sources and allow for each channel to be independently enabled, so the enable signal is not dependent on the enable of the other channel. The rise time of the enable signal is adjustable with the CONTROL bits (bits[4:2] in the CONTROL register), and can be programmed to be as short as 0.8 us or as long as 10 us. The channels also share timers that are internally enabled and reset by the EN pin. ISL61853ACRZ-T also provides current limiting with adjustable peak current and current limit thresholds. The current limit threshold adjusts the maximum amount of current passing through the channel (in amps). The current limit can be set to 2.5V, 3V, 3.5V, or 4V and allows for a maximum of 1.2A of peak current. The current limit is automatically reduced when the temperature or over-voltage protection is activated to provide additional protection for the system. The channel also offers a power good status output for each channel.In summary, ISL61853ACRZ-T Hot Swap Controllers allows systems to safely and quickly respond to a change in temperature, current, or voltage. These controllers are designed for fast response times and minimal time to start up.
