RF Transceiver ICs: JN5161/001,515 Application Field and Working PrincipleThe JN5161/001,515 is a low-power RF transceiver IC. This 8051-based device is intended to serve as the main communication system for applications requiring secure and reliable operation in harsh environments. This state-of-the-art1 integrated circuit (IC) has been developed to provide a combined RF Rx / Tx platform for short-range wireless applications such as data acquisition and transmission, as well as for other low-power on-board and external communications. The device is designed to operate in both ISM and Wi-Fi frequency bands, making it suitable for a wide range of applications where a robust data exchange is required.The device is based on a highly reliable 1 Mbps Arm-M3 core processor, and supports on-board RF data processing, Tx and Rx data throughput up to 12 Mbps. It also integrates an enhanced system-on-chip (SoC) architecture that enables a complete wireless system solution including a great variety of peripheral features. It features a wide range of power saving functions and low power standby mechanisms, and contains a low current consumption static RAM (SRAM).The device supports a variety of communication protocols such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, WLAN and 6LoWPAN. It includes a rich set of digital baseband components, such as a digital transceiver, a media access controller (MAC), a power amplifying stage (PA), a power detector (PD), a digital low-noise block (LNB) and a low-power down converter (LPDC). Furthermore, it supports additional features such as over-the-air device programming (OTAP), a health monitoring feature for peripherals and an internal temperature monitoring and compensation block.The working principle of the JN5161/001,515 is based on an unique adaptive 2-way radio system. It supports both single- and multi-rate transmissions, allowing the system to adapt to changing conditions by providing optimized modulation schemes and data rates. The main advantages of this system include the ability to detect a broad spectrum of signal quality, as well as permitting a long range of operation with low transmit power requirements.The JN5161/001,515 is a highly capable device that is applicable in a wide range of wireless systems.
