The LM5020MMX-1/NOPB is a current-mode, step-down, DC-to-DC frequency-selectable controller that offers ability to configure a system design to optimize loop response and aid in sustaining good transient response. It employs a proprietary control loop technique that reduces the output voltage ripple and improves the power efficiency. This device is suitable for microprocessor core voltage regulation, automotive/industrial, and telecom/server applications. The LM5020MMX-1/NOPB is designed to be used with external power FETs, and provides 98% efficiency when used with off-the-shelf FETs.

The LM5020MMX-1/NOPB operates with a switching frequency of 260 kHz to 1.3 MHz. This allows users to tailor the switching frequency to their applications to minimize component size, EMI, and inductor ripple current, as well as to reduce parasitic component losses. The output voltage is adjustable from 0.4 V to 5.5 V with a resistor divider. This device also features multi-mode output response, which enables fast transient response. The LM5020MMX-1/NOPB is based on a current-mode boost architecture, which provides excellent system load transient response.

The LM5020MMX-1/NOPB includes a programmable Maximum Duty-Cycle (MDC) limit clamp and a hiccup-mode short-circuit protection with programmable exit delays. An LDO/LDM tracking control is integrated on-chip, allowing the systems designer to optimize performance. This feature allows the output voltage to track the voltage of the input supply rail. A power-good signal is provided with an internal pull-down resistor, which alerts the user when the output voltage falls below a preset level.

The LM5020MMX-1/NOPB also features integrated over-temperature protection. The device provides internal thermal shutdown protection for both die junction and external power FET temperatures. Additionally, the device adjusts the maximum duty-cycle limit with changing internal die temperature to reduce junction temperature rise.

The LM5020MMX-1/NOPB is optimized for applications operating with input operating by input supply voltages of 4.5V to 300V. It is available in a 10-terminal, 4mm x 3mm PQFN package and is rated for operation junction temperature range up to 150°C. It is a UL 94V-0 compliant package.
