The LM5072EVAL evaluation board is one of the products of the evaluation boards category of DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS. It is an easy to use evaluation module for the LM5072 SyncFET™ “True Dual” 2-Phase Synchronous Buck Controller.
The LM5072EVAL board allows designers to quickly test the LM5072 in their actual operating environment before implementing their design in a printed circuit board. The board includes all components necessary to evaluate the LM5072 and demonstrates the controller in a typical dual-phase buck operating topology.

LM5072EVAL Working Principle:
The LM5072EVAL evaluation board is designed to provide an easily adjustable, stable power supply for the LM5072 synchronous buck controller. The LM5072EVAL board uses a 20-V N-channel MOSFET and allows the operation of the LM5072 controller in a 2-phase parallel configuration. The output voltage level is adjustable by using a pair of voltage dividers with adjustable resistors.
The LM5072EVAL board generates two identical sync signals – SYNC1 and SYNC2 – which drive the gate of each phase of the MOSFET. A resistor connected in series with the gate of each MOSFET provides current limiting. A curve tracer is also available to check the turn-on, turn-off, and steady-state characteristic of the MOSFET in comparison with the reference MOSFET.
The output voltage is adjusted using a resistor divider network connected across the output of the controller. Two DIP switches allow the user to choose between external and internal current limit setting. An external voltage reference is provided if needed. The SYNC1 and SYNC2 signals are available on a 5-pole IDC header.
The board is supplied by a 4.2-V input voltage and is able to deliver up to 10-A current at a regulated voltage. The input filter capacitor is connected to a 4.2-V DC voltage source through a jumper. The board also has an open collector output to indicate that the primary voltage is too low or over voltage conditions.
In addition, the board includes several additional optional components that allow the user to extend the range of operation. These components include an optional output voltage sense resistor, an optional ON/OFF control signal, and an optional gate controlled current limit function.
Overall, the LM5072EVAL evaluation board offers a powerful and convenient platform for designers to quickly build and test the LM5072 synchronous buck controller with minimal effort. The board is designed for maximum flexibility and with multiple configuration options, allowing for the evaluation of various operating modes and power supply designs.
