The LM5072MHX-50/NOPB is a power supply controller, specifically designed for Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications. In order to provide power over Ethernet, the LM5072MHX-50/NOPB needs to detect and identify powered devices on the Ethernet line, and then select the correct power delivery. The LM5072MHX-50/NOPB features a power detection and classification circuitry that can detect and identify the type of device connected over the Ethernet link and auto-select the appropriate power delivery.

Once the power delivery has been determined, the LM5072MHX-50/NOPB can then automatically select the most efficient power delivery based on the type of device detected. The LM5072MHX-50/NOPB can deliver power to both Type I and Type II powered devices, and can also support the patented PowerPlus PoE Plus standard.

The LM5072MHX-50/NOPB also features integrated protection circuitry to protect against various fault conditions and over-voltage. This includes integrated timing and tracking circuitry to ensure reliable and accurate timing for power up and power-down, as well as frequency-hopping and pulse-width-modulation circuitry for optimal power delivery.
