Tantalum Capacitors

Tantalum capacitors are widely used for smoothing and memory storage applications in areas where small volume and high capacitance is required. The M39003/01-2254 is widely used in both commercial and industrial applications.

Working Principle

The M39003/01-2254 is a high dielectric constant and low ESR device. It comprises of a ceramic capacitor and a tantalum bead. It works on the principle of capacitance. When voltage is applied across the device, electrical charge is stored in the ceramic capacitor, which is then discharged through the tantalum bead. By storing energy, the device provides an electrical path for the current to flow, thereby allowing load regulation and voltage conversion.

It contains an anode, a cathode, an anodic lead and an internal capacitor. The anode is a thermally stable material, which is usually made out of metal, ceramic or a semi-conductor. The cathode is a metal plate and is typically coated with an insulating material to prevent short-circuits. The anodic lead allows access to the internal capacitor, while the internal capacitor stores the electrical energy.

The internal capacitor comprises of two metal plates, separated by an insulating material. When a voltage is applied, electrons are attracted to the negative plate and the positive plate accumulates a negative charge. This creates a small electric field whereby the capacitor stores energy and allows charge to flow in or out of the circuit. By regulating the voltage in the circuit, the M39003/01-2254 enables greater operating stability and can be used for either energy storage or signal conditioning.
