Tantalum Capacitors

The M39003/01-2300/HSD is a third-generation tantalum capacitor, designed for civilian and military applications, and offers a wide range of features including small size, high frequency and temperature stability.

Working Principle

The M39003/01-2300/HSD uses a patented three-layer construction, consisting of a tantalum powder anode, a dielectric layer between the anode and the nickel-plated substrate, and an internal cathode. This design utilizes a chemical reaction to provide the electrical insulation, eliminating the need for a layer of organic electrolyte. The dielectric layer can also provide additional reliability when the capacitor is stressed by temperature changes or large currents. The capacitor also has an anode-to-cathode electrical connection, so the anode voltage is always equal to the cathode voltage.

In operation, the M39003/01-2300/HSD capacitor utilizes the capacitor\'s capacitance to store charge. The capacitance is then discharged when a current is passed through it.The dielectric is subject to self-healing that cancels out any intermittent dielectric layers, preventing shorts and providing reliable performance over a long service life.
