Tantalum capacitors, or also known as tantalum electrolytic capacitors, are capacitors which use tantalum as the anode material. The M39003/01-5144/HSD, also known as Kemet ceramic surface mount capacitor, is one type of these capacitors.

The most common application for the Kemet ceramic surface mount capacitor is filtering and decoupling. They can also be used in high-frequency applications such as timing, RF signal paths, analog circuits, and power oscillator circuits. In these applications, the capacitor should be connected as close to the circuit node as possible, in order to minimize stray capacitance and the associated high frequency losses.

The construction of the capacitor is based on a tantalum wire anode and a metallized ceramic electrode. The anode is the electrical contact between the device and the circuit. The ceramic electrode is surrounded by a dielectric material that provides insulation and stability. The other side of the ceramic electrode is then connected to the circuit via a conductive layer.
