Tantalum Capacitors

Working Principle of M39003/01-5669/HSD

In the middle of the two electrodes is an electrolyte solution that saturates the thin oxide film, providing the static electric field needed to store energy. The capacitance of the M39003/01-5669/HSD is determined by the area of the two electrodes, the dielectric constant of the oxide, and the thickness of the oxide film. When the capacitor is charged, the oxide layer stores the charge in the form of electrostatic field lines.

When a voltage applied across the two electrodes, a displacement current will flow from one electrode to another. The current displacement will create a time-varying electric field in the capacitor, which is the phenomenon known as the electric field displacement. This electric field displacement happens in an instant, and stores energy in the capacitors electric fields.

The stored energy in the electric fields can also be discharged and released by reversing the voltage applied to the electrodes. When discharged, electrostatic field lines abruptly collapse, and the energy is released in an instant. This energy is then used to power up the gadgets connected to it, like communications, automotive and industrial systems.
