Tantalum capacitors, also known as tantalum electrolytic capacitors, are polarized capacitors whose anode electrode is made of tantalum on which an insulating oxide layer acts as the dielectric. It consists of a pellet of tantalum metal as an anode, covered by a layer of oxide as a dielectric, with an electrolyte cathode.

The M39003/01-6110/TR capacitor is a tantalum capacitor and is used for high stability applications. It is a highly reliable, high-temperature, surface mount chip capacitor with a high ripple current capability. The device is a vertical leaded tantalum chip capacitor with built-in EIA-standard pins and offers excellent performance in extreme operating conditions. It is rated up to 60V and is available in both radial and axial-lead packages.

The M39003/01-6110/TR capacitor has two main advantages. Firstly, its low profile allows it to fit in a wide variety of applications and it is able to handle extreme temperatures with its high ripple current rating. The working principle of the M39003/01-6110/TR capacitor is based on the electrochemical double-layer capacitor phenomenon. The dielectric used for this capacitor is a high dielectric layer made from tantalum pentoxide, which forms a thin membrane between the two electrodes. This layer acts as the insulator for the charged particles within the capacitor and the electrodes.

The anode of the M39003/01-6110/TR capacitor is connected to the positive side of the power supply. The dielectric is used to prevent current-flow between the anode and the cathode when the voltage is applied. The positive charge accumulates on the anode and creates an electric field which acts on the dielectric layer to create a electrostatically charged region. This, in turn, generates a current flow between the anode and cathode when an external potential is applied. Hence, the amount of current flowing through the capacitor is directly proportional to the applied potential.

The M39003/01-6110/TR capacitor is most suitable for high-stability applications in the range of 8 Hz to 100 MHz, and it is used in power supply filters, feedback circuits, radio communication systems, computers and other sensitive electronic devices. It also has excellent high temperature stability and is compatible with flow and reflow soldering processes.
