M39003/01-6277H, a new series of small, low voltage tantalum capacitors from Vishay, is designed to provide high capacitance in a small form factor and feature an insensitive-terminal construction for high capacitance stability, enabling lower equivalent series resistance (ESR).

M39003/01-6277H tantalum capacitors feature acapacitance range from 33 to 470 µF up to 10 V, providing goodperformance in a variety of applications. Their small size andhigh capacitance mean they can be used in applications wheresmall size and high capacitance are desirable, such as low voltagepower supplies. In addition, they feature a dry-pack construction,which eliminates the need for a separate seal, reducing theassembly time for the capacitor.

The working principle of the M39003/01-6277H is essentiallythe same as any other tantalum capacitor. Tantalum capacitorsrely on the flow of electrical current on the surface of a tantalummetal foil, which is then covered in an electrolyte solution. Theelectrolytic solution is both an insulator and an electrolyte, andit both stores and releases energy depending on the appliedvoltage. This creates an electric field that causes the currentto flow along the surface of the tantalum metal foil. Thecurrent causes an ion exchange in the electrolytic solution,which alters the charge of the tantalum metal.

The M39003/01-6277H tantalum capacitors offer features suchas high capacitance stability, low ESR, and small form factor,making them suitable for a wide variety of applications. Theyare particularly well-suited for use in low-voltage powersupplies, as their small size and high capacitance make themideal for applications where space is limited.
