Tantalum Capacitors

Tantalum capacitors are non-polarized electrolytic capacitors made of tantalum forming an anode with a manganese dioxide cathode. Construction typically consists of a tantalum metal pellet anode with an oxide coating, acting as a dielectric layer, which is connected to one of the capacitor terminals. The other terminal is connected to a conductive cathode surface with an electrolytic surface contact.The structure is surrounded by a plastic sleeve acting as a moisture barrier.

Tantalum capacitors provide small size and high capacitance while being able to withstand voltages up to 60 volts. They are also more reliable due to their higher temperature coefficient and temperature range as compared to other capacitor types.
