Tantalum capacitors is a type of capacitors containing tantalum metal powder as the anode material. A common Tantalum capacitors is the M39003/01-6366/TR.

Application field

Working Principle

The M39003/01-6366/TR uses tantalum foil as electrodes and is filled with a tantalum oxide dielectric layer. When there is a voltage between the two terminals, the capacitor is able to store charge in a form of electrostatic potential energy. The dielectric material has a property that determines the amount of energy that can be stored, which is called the capacitance (C). The amount of energy stored in the device follows:

The equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the capacitor also affects the device dynamics. ESR determines the losses due to internal resistance and is a function of its construction. The total losses (in watts) of the capacitor can be determined as follows:
