This tantalum capacitor is also designed to withstand a ripple current of 20mA @ 100kHz and has a radial leaded case. The construction of this capacitor is based on its dielectric powdered solid electrolyte of tantalum and a lead anode and cathode with a thickness of 0.1mm. Its anode and cathode are also coated with a protective coating, which prevents the oxidation of the anode and cathode, thus allowing its reliable long-term operation.

The working principle of a tantalum capacitor is quite simple; it works on the theory of dielectric absorption. When the negative voltage is applied to the anode of the capacitor, the positive ions in the electrolyte are attracted, while the negative ions are repelled. The positive oxygen atoms in the dielectric are attracted to the anode, thus forming a capacitor which stores the electrical charge in the form of ions, while the negative oxygen atoms stay away from the anode. This process allows the capacitor to store the electrical energy and release it when the voltage is removed from the anode.
