Tantalum Capacitors

Tantalum capacitors are polarized electrolytic capacitors, which means they carry a positive terminal and negative terminal. Their quality and reliability can be enhanced by applying additional built in components, such as a dumper diode, which offers high stability in any kind of environment from high temperature or vibration, to an applied DC voltage.

The M39003/01-7360 are a series of certified, non-inductive tantalum capacitors featuring an operating temperature range from -55°C to +125°C. The capacitors are suitable for use in bulk capacitance. The devices are qualified to MIL-PRF-39003/01 Level C.

Working Principle

M39003/01-7360 tantalum capacitors rely on an electrochemical principle of operation, wherein chemical energy is converted into electrical energy. When a voltage is applied to the capacitor terminals, an electric field is created inside the capacitor dielectric, causing ions to be attracted from one terminal to the other. This process results in the charges being stored on either side of the dielectric, forming an electrical energy storage element.

The capacitance of the capacitor is dependent on the number of ions stored and the physical size of the dielectric. Consequently, the capacitance of the capacitor can be changed by changing the thickness and material of the dielectric. The M39003/01-7360 also uses organic and inorganic electrolytic capacitors for additional reliability.

The capacitors are sturdy, reliable solutions that enable current flow across the terminals in both directions, allowing them to be used in capacitor discharge units (CDU) and power supplies to provide stable and reliable performance in a variety of environments.
