The MAC15MG is one type of Thyristor - TRIAC that can be used in various consumer, industrial, and automotive applications. Applications
Doubler circuits, motor control, AC control and light control are some of the most common applications for MAC15MG TRIACs. The device is suitable for a variety of AC switching applications including low cost lamp dimmers, electronic door locks, fan control circuits, solid state relays and other AC current control circuits. Working Principle
The MAC15MG is a sensitive gate, three-quadrant TRIAC with a maximum blocking voltage of 500V. It contains three terminals: Anode 1, Anode 2, and Gate. When a voltage is applied across the Anode 1 and Anode 2 terminals and a current is applied to the Gate terminal, the device will become ON, allowing current to pass through it. When the Gate current is removed, the device will become OFF, blocking current flow.
The Gate terminal is configured to turn the device ON when the voltage reaches a certain threshold (on-state voltage) and also turn it OFF when the voltage reaches a certain threshold (off-state voltage). The correct Gate current applied through the Gate terminal will keep the MAC15MG in a conducting state, allowing continuous passage of current through the device. This makes it ideal for controlling the AC current in circuits.
The MAC15MG is also designed with a design feature known as “snubberless”. This feature eliminates the need for an external resistor-capacitor circuit, or “snubber”, for reverse voltage protection. This makes the device both cost effective and easy to use.
