The MAX5024LASA+ uses a charge-pump voltage conversion design that allows it to achieve exceptionally low quiescent current operation and low surface mount component count. The charge-pump concept works by taking a capacitive load and breaking it up into two stages; an input stage and an output stage. The input stage consists of two stages, the first being a simple rectifier that rectifies the incoming AC waveform and charges a storage capacitor.The second stage rectifier is a charge pump. It uses the energy stored in the storage capacitor to create a new AC waveform that is then rectified, filtered and then used to charge another larger capacitor. This larger capacitor is then used to supply the load with the correct voltage.The MAX5024LASA+ then adjusts the voltage level by using an internal voltage regulator circuit.
