The MAX5024TASA+T regulator makes use of a linear voltage regulation technique, which keeps the output voltage at a constant level regardless of the input voltage variations. An adjustable voltage reference provides the nominal output voltage, which is kept constant using a voltage error amplifier and a feedback network. The amplifier has both inverting and non-inverting inputs to which the feedback reference voltage and the sensed output voltage are applied respectively. Any difference in the voltages is amplified, and the resulting signal is used to adjust the output of the pass transistor so that the output voltage is maintained at the desired level. The output current is provided to the load through an internal PMOS pass transistor. The device also has thermal protection circuitry that monitors the die temperature and shuts down the output to protect the device from exceeding the maximum junction temperature.
