Working Principle

The MAX5060ETI+ combines a low-side MOSFET switch and a low-dropout regulator, driving the gate of the high-side MOSFET during the ON-state. When the button is pressed on the side, the controller enters ON-state and the two LEDs are activated, indicating the state of the circuit.

The ON-state is regulated by the feedback loop. The output voltage is sensed through a voltage divider, which gives a feedback to the controller. Depending upon the output voltage level, the regulator adjusts the duty-cycle of the switch to regulate the output voltage. The output voltage level is set through an external resistor divider, which is connected to the FB pin of the controller.

The device features frequency foldback mode and Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) mode. The maximum frequency of the device is 24 MHz in the PWM mode and 16 MHz in the foldback mode. To further reduce the noise and minimize the electromagnetic interference, the device allows for synchronization of the PWM frequency with an external clock.
