PMIC - Gate DriversThe MCP14A0153T-E/MS is a MOSFET driver which belongs to the category of Power Management Interface Circuits (PMICs). Designed to provide high performance power supply conversion, the MCP14A0153T-E/MS includes two independent channels for controlling heavy loads.This PMIC - Gate Drivers can effectively switch on or off two MOSFETs (metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors) in order to control large DC loads. In its basic state, the device is inactive and thus keeps the load off. By applying a high voltage signal to the two channels, the driver can switch on the MOSFETs in order to allow current to flow through the load. This allows the MCP14A0153T-E/MS to provide exceptional control over the electrical current in a wide range of applications.The MCP14A0153T-E/MS is aimed at applications requiring efficient control of DC motors, such as fans, pumps, drives, solenoids and actuators. Motors are usually characterized by their load, and the MCP14A0153T-E/MS is designed to perfectly handle motor loads of up to 30 volts, 700mA at 3.3 volts and 800mA at 5.5 volts. When driving a motor, the MCP14A0153T-E/MS can handle forward or reverse rotations as well as varying speeds.The MCP14A0153T-E/MS is also suitable for high power output applications such as electric tools and high-power switching supplies. In these types of applications, the driver is able to provide up to 10 A of current and up to 400 V peak voltage. Additionally, two separate channels enable two different loads to be connected and controlled simultaneously.The MCP14A0153T-E/MS has been designed to provide efficient and reliable power conversion, making it the perfect choice for a wide range of applications. It has a low quiescent current of 1.5 μA, which helps to reduce power consumption and EMI noise. The MCP14A0153T-E/MS also has a broad operating range of −40 to 105°C and can reach frequencies up to 200 kHz. This makes it ideal for high speed switching applications.The MCP14A0153T-E/MS is designed to provide improved performance compared to traditional MOSFET Gate Drivers. The MCP14A0153T-E/MS relies on the T-capacitors’ RC snubbers (RC being a combination of a resistor and capacitor) to reduce oscillations and spikes commonly observed in MOSFET Gate Drivers.
