The Hot Swap controllers protect downstream devices and components from the damaging effects of large inrush currents which are common during power up. For additional protection, the MIC2592B-2BTQ-TR Hot Swap Controllers also offer over voltage, over current, and under voltage protection in addition to allowing for a selectable current protection level.
The MIC2592B-2BTQ-TR Hot Swap Controllers feature an internal N-Channel MOSFET which can be used to power an external device, allowing for an adjustable rise time from 0-20ms. This adjustable rise time helps to limit the inrush current during the power-up process, thus avoiding any potential damage to downstream components. The Hot Swap controllers also offer the ability to adjust the on-state voltage to ensure that the output voltage is always within the desired range.
The Hot Swap controllers operate by monitoring the input voltage, and when the voltage reaches a certain level, the controller activates the N-Channel MOSFET and then ramps up the voltage in a controlled manner. Once the output voltage reaches the desired level, the controller keeps the output voltage stable. In the event of an over-voltage or under-voltage condition, the current to the load is limited and the output voltage is kept within the desired range.
The MIC2592B-2BTQ-TR Hot Swap controllers are used in a wide range of power management applications, including in server and storage systems, routers, network switches, and embedded applications.
