The MIC5209-1.8YU is a Voltage Regulators - Linear type of Power Management IC (PMIC). It is a high-performance, low-noise and low-dropout three-terminal regulator that delivers up to 800 mA of continuous load current. The device features 800 mV dropout voltage at full load current, requires just one external resistor, and is designed to accelerate general purpose design solutions as a direct replacement for existing three-terminal regulator solutions.

The MIC5209-1.8YU is designed to replace up to 800 mA three-terminal regulators such as the LDO regulator, the N Series, the TL6012 and the TL7015. It offers superior performance, thanks to a low-noise, low-dropout voltage, and ultra-fast transient response. Its low output voltage noise allows for optimal audio performance, eliminating the need for external noise balancers, as well as its high-speed voltage tracking for switchers or in high-speed modes. The improved performance of the MIC5209-1.8YU makes it ideal for PCs and gaming applications, as well as other applications such as portable devices, automotive, instrumentation, and industrial control.

The MIC5209-1.8YU has two operation modes, normal mode and dropout mode. In normal mode, the output remains constant for input voltage variations, up to 800 mA of total load current, and hence it provides a consistent regulated voltage over a wide range of operating conditions. The regulator will switch to dropout mode when the input voltage drops below the dropout voltage, i.e. 800 mV. To protect the device from short circuit or wrong voltage, it comes with an internal current limiter that limits the current draw so that it does not exceed the maximum allowable power rating.

The MIC5209-1.8YU is an energy efficient device, with a low quiescent current, typically 35 µA, and high power efficiency. It requires only a single external resistor to set the nominal output voltage, and the device comes with a shutdown pin that can be used to reduce power consumption when the system is inactive. It is designed to fit a variety of applications, including those which must use high performance linear regulation without excessive noise or inrush current.

The MIC5209-1.8YU is packaged in a compact SOT-23-6 form factor that allows it to fit into tight locations, making it ideal for applications requiring slim designs.
