MIC5330-PGYML-TR is a 3.0A low-noise, high-PSRR linear regulator. It is available in fixed output voltages from 0.8V to 3.3V. The high power regulation accuracy is of ±1.5%, while its low dropout voltage is of 0.8V. The operating input voltage range is from 2.3V to 6.0V and its output voltage noise is 70µVrms at 10 kHz to 1MHz bandwidth. The 3A output current capability offers peak current sinking and sourcing capability results in high power performance.

This MIC5330-PGYML-TR is suitable for applications that require stable, low noise and high power supply rail. It can be used in a variety of applications such as industrial control systems, telecommunications, power management in notebooks and desktops, server systems and low voltage motors. It is also found highly useful for providing dynamic system power for DSPs, FPGAs, ASICs and ASSPs.

Working Principle

The MIC5330-PGYML-TR operates on the principle of linear regulation. It is essentially a voltage regulator that works by continuously adjusting the output voltage to maintain a steady voltage output relative to the input supply voltage. It employs an internal P-channel MOSFET as the pass device, which is driven by an internal control circuitry. The external feedback resistors (R1 and R2) are used to set the predetermined output voltage.

The MIC5330-PGYML-TR also includes a linear voltage reference (VREF) as the main component that provides the reference voltage. The current through the VREF and the pass device along with the output voltage is constantly monitored by an active voltage loop control circuit. Then, according to the feedback resistors output voltage setting, the internal control circuit adjusts the current through the pass device to control the output voltage.

The MIC5330-PGYML-TR also includes the enable pin, which is used to turn the regulator on and off. When the enable pin is pulled low, it turns off the regulator, allowing the output voltage to float. Also, under-voltage lockout (UVLO) protects the regulation circuit by disabling the regulator whenever the input voltage is below a predetermined voltage. This helps to ensure that the device does not operate outside of its designed limits.
