The MIC5365-2.8YMT-TZ is a low drop linear voltage regulator with an adjustable output voltage. It is a member of the MIC5365 family of voltage regulators, developed by Micrel, Inc. The MIC5365-2.8YMT-TZ is designed to provide a low dropout linear voltage output of 2.8V with an adjustable output voltage range of 1.24V to 4.5V. The device offers high power efficiency and low quiescent current while maintaining excellent load regulation and low output noise and ripple.

The MIC5365-2.8YMT-TZ Working Principle

The MIC5365-2.8YMT-TZ is a three-terminal integrated circuit with a built-in voltage regulator. The MIC5365-2.8YMT-TZ is designed to provide a low dropout, low quiescent current and low output noise linear voltage regulator. It consists of an error amplifier, a PNP pass transistor and a voltage reference, which when connected together form a linear regulator. The error amplifier feedbacks the output voltage to maintain its set value. The output voltage is determined by the voltage reference and the external resistor divider network. The PNP pass transistor takes the linear regulator output voltage and provides the control signal to regulate power supply current to the load. The PNP pass transistor also amplifies the current generated by the error amplifier.

The output voltage of the MIC5365-2.8YMT-TZ can be adjusted to any value between the reference voltage and the input voltage, provided that the power dissipated by the device does not exceed the absolute maximum rating of the device. The device also has a thermal foldback circuit which reduces the power dissipation during periods of over temperature. The MIC5365-2.8YMT-TZ can be disabled by applying a low voltage to the CTRL pin. Also, an external enable control is available with any combination of external circuitry. The MIC5365-2.8YMT-TZ is protected against transient voltage spikes, electrostatic discharge and reversed polarity.
