MP4KE33A Working Principle

The MP4KE33A is a unidirectional device consists of an anode and cathode consists of a junction formed between a p-type semiconductor section, an n+type semiconductor section and a p+ semiconductor section. The n+ section of the junction acts as a Zener diode and the cathode current is the sum of the anode and Zener diode currents. The p+ section acts as an ESD protection device that releases power due to the built-in avalanche voltage and current spikes. When the energy of an ESD event exceeds the avalanche voltage of the p+ section, a conducting channel will be created and the energy will be diverted to the ground. This channel will be shut down as soon as the energy is dissipated.

The specialized reverse stand-off voltage of the MP4KE33A helps to protect equipment from damage due to voltage spikes, lightning and inductive loads, and is able to offer effective protection for data lines and other digital circuits for working voltage of up to 7.0V. The MP4KE33A also offers low capacitance of 4.5pF when installed in protecting high speed data lines.
