A diode is a type of electric component used for switching functions and for rectifying alternating current (AC) electric power into direct current (DC) electric power. In a diode, electrons flow from an anode (the positively charged electrode) to a cathode (the negatively charged electrode). The PLZ3V3A-G3/H is just one type of diode, classified as a single Zener diode, which is a special type of diode that has been modified so it can regulate voltage and control current. The PLZ3V3A-G3/H is also suitable for use in an over-voltage protection circuit. In order to design an overvoltage protection circuit, a voltage regulating device such as the PLZ3V3A-G3/H is connected in parallel with the load which is being protected. Whenever the voltage in the circuit reaches a threshold, the diode will start conducting, limiting the current in the circuit. The reverse biasing of the diode prevents any further increase in the voltage, thus preventing any damage to the load.
