PTC resettable fuses (RGEF1000K) are dynamic electrical limited devices that are widely used for the protection of electronic systems, components and equipment. These devices, however, provide an additional layer of current limiting, over current protection and temperature related thermal protection that are inherent in a fuse.

In the most common implementation, RGEF1000K devices are soldered in parallel to the component being protected. When the current reaches the resettable threshold, the PTC device rapidly reduces its resistance, limiting the current and protecting the component from damage caused by excessive current.

RGEF1000K devices are typically made of thermosetting polymers, filled with a conductive material, such as metallic particles. When a current passes through the device, the material heats up, which in turn increases the resistance of the device. This increase in resistance causes the device to trip and limit the current passing through it. Once the current reaches the current limit, the device begins to cool, reducing its resistance and allowing the current to flow once again.

In addition to the current limiting capabilities, RGEF1000K devices also offer other useful features. Many of these devices offer additional protection against noise, radiating fields, power cycling, and other environmental conditions. In addition, they can be used to protect against short circuits, EMI/RFI interference, and over voltage conditions.
