Its radial leaded package is manufactured using RoHS compliant technology and provides excellent heat dissipation capabilities. The recommended operating temperature range for RGEF400K-2 is -40°C to 85°C. It is also flame retardant and halogen-free.

The mechanism controlling the operation of RGEF400K-2 is based on two principles: overheating protection and over-current protection. Whenever a fault is detected by the fuse, the current flow is rapidly interrupted. This interruption is typically triggered by excessively high current that would otherwise cause damage to the device or circuit that it is protecting. The interruption in current flow causes a built-in thermistor to expand thereby interrupting the flow of current. Once the fault is corrected, the PTC Resettable Fuse will return to its original state and allow the current flow to continue.

For over-current protection, an internal resistor is used to sense and interrupt current flow. The size and location of the resistor determines the speed of current interruption as well as the current rating of the fuse. The PTC Resettable Fuse also features a dual-purpose crowbar protection circuit. This feature locks out the fuse’s internal circuit and provides additional protection in the event of a surge or excessive current.
