Common Mode Chokes are mainly used as noise filter in communication systems. They are an important part of high-order filter element. To better explain the application field and working principle of the Common Mode Choke RN112-1.5-02, let’s take a closer look at it. The RN112-1.5-02 Common Mode Choke is a two-phase inductive component. It is composed of two isolated coils wound on the same paen core or two connected bases. It has a rated current of 1.5A, a DC resistance of <0.08Ω, and an inductance of 125uH (without core loss). This type of Common Mode Choke can even filter out some high frequency signals. Common Mode Chokes are used as low-pass filters to suppress excessive noise that influences communication systems, wire antennas, and power lines. In simple terms, the RN112-1.5-02 Common Mode Choke filters out high-frequency interference signals while allowing the passage of low-frequency normal signals.The working principle of Common Mode Choke is based on the principle of magnetic coupling between two coils. An alternating current is passed through the first coil, and then the same coil is joined with the second coil in parallel. The alternating current is coupled to the second coil and the signals from the input coil and the coupled output coil are correctly symmetrical. In this way, the alternating current is multiplied and passed to the second coil. The output coil is also connected with a resistor. This resistor is selected according to the applications. Generally speaking, when the frequency of the input current is lower than the cut-off frequency (in the case of the RN112-1.5-02, the cut-off frequency is about 300 KHz), the current output is the same as the input current while when the frequency of the input current is higher than the cut-off frequency, the magnitude of the output current decreases greatly, thus eliminating the interference from high frequency signals.In addition, the working principle of this type of Common Mode Choke is related to the internal resistance of the choke. The higher the internal resistance of the choke, the higher the frequency of the output current. The internal resistance is defined by the size of the coil (which affects the number of windings) and the material used to wind the coil. In conclusion, the RN112-1.5-02 Common Mode Choke is used primarily for high-order filtering in communication systems and for eliminating interference on power and wire antennas. It is composed of two isolated coils which works based on the principle of magnetic coupling. When the frequency of the input current is lower than the cut-off frequency, the magnitude of the output current is the same as the input current while when the frequency of the input current is higher than the cut-off frequency, the magnitude of the output current decreases greatly. The internal resistance determines the magnitude of the output current and is related to the size of the coil and the material used to wind the coil.
