The RT8072GSP is a synchronous DC to DC buck converter for intermediate bus voltage applications. This device is a complete power solution for motherboard-based designs ranging from 0.7V to 2.5V with high integration and low external components count. The RT8072GSP has three distinct power stages, a power switch, integral driver and synchronous rectifier half bridge. It includes protection, overvoltage, adjustable soft-start and adjustable current limit, which makes this device uniquely suited for both battery and adapter powered systems. The integrated power switch and synchronous rectifier have on resistance of 45 mΩ and 10 mΩ respectively to minimize power loss and improve the device efficiency.
The RT8072GSP is designed to provide accurate voltage regulation at output, up to 95% efficiency, precise current limiting and can operate up to 2.6MHz. The enable pin allows powering the power supply on and off without detection of the input voltage. The power-good output pin indicates the presence of the output voltage and its accuracy. In addition, the RT8072GSP has overvoltage protection (OVP) circuits to ensure a safe turning off of the device as well as a fault flag to monitor the current limit circuitry operation.
The RT8072GSP is specifically designed for high current step-down conversion applications in the intermediate bus voltage range between 0.7V and 2.5V. It is suited for both battery and adapter powered systems and can provide high power with low components count, making this device particularly suitable for power management of memory, Telecom and NVM applications, such as DDR2, DDR3, DDR4 and LPDRAM.
In terms of its working principle, the RT8072GSP is a synchronous DC-to-DC buck converter with a power switch, integral driver and synchronous rectifier half bridge. It works by using an input voltage higher than the desired output voltage to switch the power switch between on and off states.
