SI4123-D-GT is a clock generator, phase-locked loop (PLL), and frequency synthesizer integrated circuit (IC). It is a versatile, low-power device, providing flexibility and reducing design complexity. This device is ideal for applications such as digital terrestrial television (DTV) receivers, voice over internet protocol (VoIP) telephones, advanced networking and high-speed computing.Clock/Timing devices are an important component of most digital systems. They help coordinate various sections of a design and make sure that the timing of operations is properly synchronized. They often generate pulses or signals at very high frequency and accurately control the rising edges or falling edges of those signals. SI4123-D-GT clock generator is designed to generate single-ended LVCMOS outputs in the range of 1.8-4.4V.The SI4123-D-GT consists of three major blocks, a dual PLL frequency synthesizer, a programmable power down clock generator and a distributed fault interruption monitor. The dual PLL allows for the conversion of a fixed input clock frequency to different output frequencies with either a single or a dual output voltage. The programmable power down clock generator automatically places the device in a low power state when the reference frequency is below a pre-defined threshold.Phase-locked loops (PLLs) are feedback control systems used to generate and maintain a stable output frequency that is precisely related to a reference frequency. This is done by locking the phase of the output frequency to the phase of the reference frequency. The SI4123-D-GT PLL consists of a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), a phase detector, a loop filter and a divider. The VCO generates an output signal with a frequency dependent on an input voltage. The phase detector compares the phase of the input signal to the phase of the VCO output signal and adjusts the VCO accordingly. The loop filter integrates the output of the phase detector and acts as an error signal, thus allowing the VCO to maintain a certain phase in relation to the reference signal. The divider stabilizes the generated signal and ensures that the PLL output frequency is electrically locked to the reference frequency.Frequency synthesizers are often used to convert a reference signal of a given frequency to an output frequency with a range of a few kHz to hundreds of GHz. Frequency synthesizers are most useful in applications where multiple channels with different frequencies are needed such as wireless communications, radar and space communication. The SI4123-D-GT frequency synthesizer feature allows for the generation of different output frequencies from a single reference signal.The distributed fault interruption monitor automatically places the device into power down mode if the device experiences a temporary disruption such as power outages or reset signals.
