The SI72XX-WD-KIT evaluation board was designed to detect and measure the magnetic field created by a winding of a coil or an alternating current. This evaluation board is particularly suitable for applications that require precise and reliable magnetic field measurements. It is a great tool to study and verify the magnetic behavior of power converters, AC motors, transformers, transformers and electric power supplies.
The evaluation board makes use of the SI72XX magnetoresistive sensing systems. This sensing system utilizes two rows of magnetoresistive elements connected to form a Wheatstone bridge. The SI72XX-WD-KIT evaluation board consists of two main parts: the sensing system and the data acquisition circuit. The sensing system includes two rows of magnetoresistive elements, a voltage-controlled current generator and a pair of instrumentation amplifiers. The instrumentation amplifiers supply an input voltage to the current generator. The current generator serves to excite one of the Wheatstone bridge arms, resulting in an output voltage which is proportional to the magnetic field strength. The output from the Wheatstone bridge is then conditioned by the board\'s instrumentation amplifiers and sent to the data acquisition circuit.
The data acquisition circuit comprises an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and an optional digital signal processor (DSP). The ADC is used to convert the analog signal output of the Wheatstone bridge into digital values. The DSP in turn processes the digital values to yield a calibrated output in terms of mT (millitesla) or Oe (Oersted equivalent). Up to four separate components of the magnetic field strength can be measured in the x,y,z,t directions. The output of the data acquisition circuit can be provided in either serial or parallel formats.
The SI72XX-WD-KIT evaluation board offers all the advantages of a customized magnetic field measurement solution in a self-contained kit. A single board supports both AC and DC measurement, enabling the user to switch between the two easily. The kit is also compatible with a variety of other sensors, including devices such as magnetometers, compasses, Hall effect switches and current sensors. Additionally, the kit is equipped with an interactive user interface software that allows the user to quickly adjust the range of magnetic field measurement, as well as view the results in a graphical format.
