IntroductionSM6S30A-E3/2D TVS - Diodes are widely used in many applications. They are capable of protecting circuits from electrical over voltage, reverse currents and over current spikes. These diodes provide protection for electronic circuits against damage from Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) and other transients. The SM6S30A-E3/2D TVS - Diodes offer a higher clamping voltage and are generally more tolerant at higher speeds.
ApplicationFields
SM6S30A-E3/2D TVS - Diodes are used in a variety of applications, including automotive, consumer electronics, industrial, telecommunications, military, aerospace, medical and commercial applications. They are used in automotive ignition interfaces, motor control circuits, electric power tools, industrial motors and sensors, HVAC systems, audio circuits, telecom line interface circuits, computers and medical instruments. SM6S30A-E3/2D TVS - Diodes can also be used for protection against transients in AC/DC power supplies, cameras and camcorders, radio and TV transmitters, and line protection modules.
Working Principle
The SM6S30A-E3/2D TVS – Diodes operate by utilizing the avalanche breakdown mechanism. When a transient voltage is applied, the applied voltage increases with the decrease in voltage applied across the diode junction. As the voltage increases, the gap between the p-n junction decreases. When the avalanche breakdown occurs, electrons and holes accelerate and collide with each other, releasing energy in the form of heat. This produces a rapid increase in current, effectively clamping the voltage applied to the diode. The SM6S30A-E3/2D TVS – Diodes also have an internal resistor to limit the peak current and reduce damage to the protection circuitry.Surge Capability
The SM6S30A-E3/2D TVS – Diodes offer excellent protection against transient over voltages. They are rated for maximum peak overloads of up to 25kA, depending on the part number. To provide the best possible performance, these diodes are qualified to withstand repetitive stress levels of up to 8kA per pulse. The breakdown voltage is adjustable over a range of 6-30V, allowing the designer to select the optimum clamping voltage for the application.Conclusion
