The TNY253GN-TL is a miniature off-line switcher integrated circuit manufactured by POWER Integration. It is specifically designed for cost efficient no-load power supplies. It typically operates in applications requiring output power ranging from 1 to 10 watts. It provides protection against overvoltage and overcurrent conditions, as well as thermal limiting by a Current Mode Control (CMC) architecture for easy loop compensation.
At lower line voltages, the TNY253GN-TL incorporates a novel burst-mode low-power feature to reduce average power consumption to 20mW. It uses a high efficiency AC/DC converter with an integrated high voltage MOSFET switch. The TNY253GN-TL integrated circuit has low start-up operating current, low external component count, and its maximum operating temperature range is from -40°C to +85°C.
The TNY253GN-TL application field includes a variety of electronic applications such as open frame power supplies, notebooks, and desktop computers, adapters, SOHO offices, desktop printers, and other industrial applications that require a high performance, extremely efficient and reliable Integrated Circuit. The output power is suitable for instantaneous peak with Power Factor Correction (PFC) level.
TNY253GN-TL working principle basically consists of an AC/DC conversion to an output voltage. A Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuit precedes the output stage and can be used to improve the power factor. The power factor is improved by adding some reactive power compensation for the line current that ensures a higher system energy efficiency. This is done by regulating the turn-on time of the internal High Voltage NFET switch.
The overall system operation is based on a hysteretic Current Mode Control (CMC) scheme where the internal High Voltage NFET switch is turned on and off depending on the output voltage. An additional hysteretic control loop is used to reduce the internal High Voltage NFET switching frequency at light loads. This enables higher energy efficiency at light load conditions and improves the no-load power consumption.
The TNY253GN-TL is an ideal choice for highly efficient off-line AC/DC converters. The device is offered in a 4-pin SOIC package, and it is compatible with lead-free soldering processes. It is manufactured in accordance with European Union Directive 2002/95/EC (RoHS). It requires a minimum number of external components and offers high system integration.
TNY253GN-TL offers an advanced suite of protection features, suitable for applications operating at high temperature and humidity, where the output voltage is close to the minimum operating voltage.
