It integrates 1200V power switch, 120mΩ internal power MOSFET and necessary state control circuits, along with protection function and low noise operation to an integrated chip form. This combined functionality reduces system component count and design complexity.The working principle of TOP214YN includes the following aspects. Firstly, the transformer provides the output voltage sensing and galvanic isolation between the controller and the feedback signal. Secondly, the external primary MOSFET controls a current waveform in the primary side of the transformer. Thus, the transformer performs the transfer of power from the primary side to the secondary side. Thirdly, the secondary rectifier consisting of several diodes is commonly used in traditional offline converter to provide constant voltage regulation and rectification. Fourthly, the active dV/dt filter can minimizes the waveform distortion and eliminates the cross conduction problem. TOP214YN has several protection functions, including primary over-voltage protection, brownout protection, over temperature protection and short-circuit protection. The primary over-voltage protection (PVP) is designed to protect the MOSFET from over-voltage conditions and prevents the internal primary MOSFET from destruction. Brownout protection (BOP) keeps the device from sinking excessive current when the input voltage is too low. Moreover, TOP214YN’s temperature control system includes thermal protection and temperature shutdown.
