The TOP259EG integrated circuit is a high-performance, integrated off-line switch for switch mode power supplies. It combines a high-voltage power MOSFET, temperature shutdown, under-voltage lockout (UVLO), over-current protection and frequency jittering in a single chip. This helps reduce power and cost in power supply design with compact size.

From a functional perspective the TOP259EG integrated circuit is comprised of three main function blocks: power MOSFET, protection and frequency jittering. The power MOSFET block includes two high voltage DMOS transistors with a maximum drain-source voltage of 600V as well as Miller latch for fast turn off to ensure a short demagnetization time. When the TOP259EG is powered up, the MOSFET will be closed. The protection block includes an undervoltage lockout (UVLO) circuit, an over-current protection circuit (which functions as the current limit circuit with a programmable peak current limit threshold of 115mA up to 510mA). The frequency jittering block uses an on-chip oscillator with a programmable frequency of operating from 65 kHz to 200 kHz. Additionally, the TOP259EG can be used as a frequency modulating control circuit by combining the oscillator’s waveform and the output current waveform.
