The Texas Instruments TPS2350PWR is a monolithic high performance Hot Swap™ controller designed to provide safe boards insertion, power control & protection features to autonomously power distributed systems, including servers, storage and telecommunications equipment. Application Field
The TPS2350PWR is designed for efficient hot plugging. This is an ideal device for synchronizing any hot-swap operation in any system. It is designed with high speed and low power microcontroller interface logic to provide the accuracy and performance needed in hot-swapping function. It provides interlock, control and protection for hot-swap, low power, redundant and distributed supplies.
The TPS2350PWR is a system-level solution for hot-swapping. This includes the integration of high voltage MOSFETs for board-level interlock and protection functions. The TPS2350PWR comes with an adjustable current threshold that can be programmed from 4 A to 12 A. This ensures that the board does not exceed the maximum power level during the insertion and removal of boards.

Working Principle
The TPS2350PWR can be connected to the power line and is powered by the signal line. The signal line controls the power switch-on. The board provides a signal voltage above the internally defined voltage threshold. This voltage is sampled by the device at the signal line and if it is above the set threshold then the power MOSFETs are enabled and the board is allowed to power up. This signal voltage can be adjusted to ensure that the power up sequence is smooth and safe.
