Power factor correction (PFC), refers to an electronic device or circuit which corrects for incorrect power factor in AC-powered equipment being driven by non-linear loads. PFC circuits are mainly used in large industrial or commercial applications where power supplies need to be robust, efficient, and reliable. One example of a PFC circuit is the UCC28019ADR, a buck PFC controller from Texas Instruments that has been designed to provide total power factor correction from 85V to 375V.
