The ZTX457 is a PNP bipolar junction transistor (BJT) which is designed to amplify, switch, and control electric signals. The working principle of the ZTX457 is that a small base current is used to control a larger collector-emitter current. The transistor consists of three regions called the emitter, base, and collector. When a small base current is applied to the base-emitter junction, it creates an electric field between the two that increases the current flow through the base-emitter junction. This process is known as “normally-on” operation and is responsible for the characteristic of the transistor.In examples of normally-on operation, when the small base current is applied, the current flow increases through the collector-emitter junction, and the transistor is activated. When the base current is removed, the transistor switches “off” and the current flow ceases.The ZTX457 transistor also has an active mode of operation called “normally-off”. In this mode, a current flow through the collector-emitter junction is blocked until a small current is introduced to the base-emitter junction.
