1N3613GP-M3/54Application FieldThe 1N3613GP-M3/54 diode is a single, power rectifying diode designed for general purpose rectifications in medium-current applications. It has a reverse voltage capability of 500 V, a maximum average forward current of 540 mA at 25°C, a surge current rating of 1 A, and a non-repetitive peak forward current of 1.7 A. Additionally, it can handle peak reverse currents up to 5 mA at 25°C, and features a peak forward voltage drop of 1.02 V at 720 mA.The diode is designed and tested to withstand high levels of vibration, EMC interference, and extreme temperatures, making it suitable for use in automotive, heavy industrial and military applications. Its anode case contains a glass bead and provides excellent electrical insulation, eliminating the need for additional external insulation.Working PrincipleThe 1N3613GP-M3/54 diode works by using a p-n junction (an area where one semiconductor material is doped with ions of the opposite type) to direct the flow of current. When the diode is connected to an external power source or circuit, the p-type side of the junction is connected to the positive terminal, while the n-type side is connected to the negative terminal. This creates an electric field in the p-n junction, which allows the current to flow in one direction only, while blocking current flow in the opposite direction.When the diode is forward biased (i.e. connected with the correct polarity), electrons from the n-type region are attracted to the p-type region, allowing a current to flow through the diode. This current is then rectified, preserving the topology of the signal but directing it so that it is only allowed to flow in one direction.When the diode is reverse biased (i.e. connected with the wrong polarity or not connected at all), the p-n junction blocks the flow of current and prevents the signal from flowing in the opposite direction. The diode acts as an insulator in this case, preserving the topology of the signal and preventing it from being corrupted or degraded by external DC components.
