Working Principle of 1N3671A
The 1N3179A rectifier diode is essentially a PN junction device. Which, when supplied with a potential difference, allows current in one direction, but not in the opposite direction. It has two leads, an anode and a cathode, with the anode being more positive than the cathode. When forward biased, electrons can only pass from anode to cathode, while when reversed biased, only electrons can pass from cathode to anode.
When the voltage source connected to the anode is higher than that of the cathode, the diode is forward biased and thus conducts current, allowing electrons to flow from anode to cathode. Similarly, when reverse biased, the current flows from the cathode to the anode. The proportion of current which can flow through depends on the type of diode, the voltage and the current.
1N3179A has very low forward voltage drop, due to which it can be used in circuits with low voltage sources, such as solar energy systems. Additionally, it also has very high surge current and surge energy handling capabilities, due to which it can handle high current and pulses without overloading.
