Working Principle
The 25LC256X-E/ST operates in a native Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) mode. This version of the SPI EEPROM is organized into four pages of 4096 bits each, which allow page erase and write operations up to 16 bytes.
The 25LC256X-E/ST is designed for single-master operation. The device can communicate with the master using eight data inputs/outputs (1-8). All communication is initiated by a write to the chip select line. The write can either be a data-write operation (a write operation) or a data-read operation (a read operation). Any write (read) operation will terminate the operation when the Data/Not Ready line is high.
The number of write cycles to a given address is determined by the size of the data. When data write or page erase is performed, the data stored in the page is protected by an internal write protection register. In addition, the device offers a write protected zone feature which will prevent any inadvertent write/page erase operations when the protected zone is enabled.
