The 25LC640T-I/SNG is a non-volatile, serial 8-KBit CMOS EEPROM designed to provide a byte-oriented, read/write-capable memory in a small space. It is part of the larger 25LC640T memory family which offers higher capacities, including an 8K x 8 version and larger. The 25LC640T-I/SNG is a specialized device within this family that offers increased functionality, including higher write speeds (up to 540K bits/s) and a built-in self-test that helps ensure that any write/read/erase cycles performed will be successful. It has an operating voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5V and can handle temperatures ranging from -20°C to +80°C.

The data itself can be stored in 8KB blocks, and is then organized into 1024 8-bit locations, or "registers." Data can be written in 1, 2, 4 or 8 bytes at a time, and 1, 4, or 8 bits can also be read and erased in a single cycle. Writing data to an EEPROM such as the 25LC640T-I/SNG is different from writing to RAM in that data must be written in registers and not random locations, and must also be erased prior to new data being written.

The 25LC640T-I/SNG also offers a built-in self-test feature that helps ensure that all write/read/erase cycles will complete successfully. This feature implements checksum verification and background scrubbing, both of which are designed to help guarantee the accuracy and integrity of the data stored in the memory device. In addition, the 25LC640T-I/SNG also supports an Enhanced Write Cycle, which allows for a cycle to be initiated with a minimum of three write operations and allows data to remain writeable up to nine times per register.
