FETs, or Field Effect Transistors, are widely used in various electronic circuit applications. The 2N6802 is a single source, P-Channel Junction Field Effect Transistor (JFET) manufactured by the Global Foundries. This device is intended for switching, low-level amplification, and monitoring of small levels of input current.
The 2N6802’s main application field is in power management and analog switching circuits. Its low gate-source voltage and high input impedance allow for low current and variable resistor applications, as well as for voltage regulation using a depletion-mode MOSFET. It is also used in buffers, digital logic gates, amplifiers for voice and audio signals, and other light signaling applications.
The 2N6802 has three pins, the Gate, the Source, and the Drain. The Gate is used to introduce a controlled electric field into the channel when a positive voltage is applied. This electric field polarizes the electrons and holes in the channel, allowing current to flow between the Source and the Drain. The Source and the Drain produce a field which is partly negative, so when a negative voltage is applied to the Gate, it also polarizes the electrons and holes, making current flow between the Source and the Drain impossible.
The 2N6802 is the perfect device to use in a voltage-controlled current source (VCCS) circuit. By applying a voltage to the Gate, it can be used to regulate the current flowing between the Source and the Drain. The device has excellent static characteristics, with low leakage currents of less than 1mA, low on-resistance of 25Ω at 5V, and high cutoff frequency of approximately 9GHz.
As a result, the 2N6802 can be used in a wide variety of applications where superior performance and reliable operation are required. Its high frequency capability and low gate-source voltage make it ideal for digital and RF circuit designs, while its low leakage current is ideal for low-current applications. This makes it a perfect choice for analog switching and power management applications.
