2N6849 is a Field Effect Transistor (FET) found in many applications, from high power switching to signal amplification. The device is built up from multiple layers of silicon, along with a gate region surrounded by gate insulation. This gate region is where current flows in the form of either electrons or holes, depending on the voltage potential at the junction.

2N6849 belongs in the single FET family and is used in high power switching applications. In these applications, the current is passed from the source to the drain region.
